WINCHESTER, Va. - Christopher Newport University scored just 43 seconds into the game Saturday afternoon to key a 4-0 USA South win over homestanding Shenandoah.
Christopher Newport (11-4-3, 7-0) clinched the regular season title with the win. Shenandoah (7-11-2, 1-4-2) ends the regular season in sixth place. Both teams will advance to next week's USA South Tournament; SU will travel to Greensboro for its Tuesday quarterfinal round game.
Ashleigh Dota gave the Lady Captains all it would need with her tally off of a Lindsey Baskin assist at the 43 second mark; CNU would add additional goals at the 34th, 54th, and 64th minutes.
SU keeper Lauren Elliott (Lynchburg, Va./EC Glass) made 13 saves in the loss.
