WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University completed USA South Conference volleyball regular season play Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss to visiting Greensboro College before coming back to sweep Chowan College 3-0.
Greensboro (24-9 overall, 12-2 USA South) took the 3-0 decision 30-27, 30-19, 30-27. This win, combined with Averett's four-game victory over Christopher Newport, puts GC, CNU and AU into a three-way tie for the regular season title. Seeding for next week's tournament will be determined by coin flip.
Shenandoah finishes the conference season with a 5-9 mark and is now 15-17 overall. The Hornets will most likely be a No. 5 seed at next week's conference tournament.
Katie Smith led the victors with a match high 13 kills while Lauren Smith added 12 and Lauren Lahmeyer 23 assists.
Freshman Michelle Chandler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) had 10 kills for SU.
Shenandoah then came back to sweep former USA South foe Chowan 30-14, 31-29, 30-19. Senior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) had a match high 10 kills while Jenna Warrenfeltz (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg) led the defense with 18 digs.
