MURFREESBORO, N.C. - Chowan College combined a strong offensive performance with a stellar defense to take a 4-0 non-league women's soccer victory over visiting Shenandoah Friday afternoon.
Chowan (6-4-2) outshot SU (5-8-1) 50-1 and scored three goals in a five-minute span early in the second half to break open a close contest.
Stephanie Montague tallied the game-winner in the 26th minute, but it wasn't until CC scored goals in the 52nd, 55th and 57th minutes that they were able to pull away from former USA South foe Shenandoah.
Casey Driver had a goal and assist during this run; she also assisted on Montague's opening goal of the game.
SU keeper Lauren Elliott (Lynchburg, Va./EC Glass) had a second best in school history 21 saves in the losing effort.
