Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team matched last season's win total Friday night by sweeping a tri-match with Mary Washington and Lynchburg. 

Shenandoah (12-9) came back from a 2-1 deficit to down the Eagles 3-2 (23-30, 30-12, 26-30, 30-23, 15-9) before defeating Lynchburg 3-1 (32-30, 24-30, 34-32, 30-18).

Freshman Jennifer Thompson (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) led the Hornets in the UMW contest with a match high 13 kills while classmate Christina Greene (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) had 23 of Shenandoah's 82 digs.

Michelle Chandler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) and Thompson combined for 26 assists against the Eagles with Chandler having 15.

Shenandoah won the battle of the Hornets in the nightcap, outlasting Lynchburg in the four-game tilt. The losing team scored at least 30 points in two of the first three games, and it wasn't until game four that SU was able to finish off LC (10-7). Senior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) had 14 kills, Greene and Chandler 12 and Thompson 10 to lead the offense. Thompson also had a co-match high 24 assists.

Freshman Jenna Warrenfeltz (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg) led the defense with 27 digs.
