ASHLAND, Va. - Roanoke College used a 10-point halftime advantage to key a 77-54 victory over Shenandoah in the opening round of the Randolph Macon Tournament Friday evening.
The Lady Maroons (1-0) scored 30 of the first 35 points of the game before Shenandoah (0-1) got hot toward the end of the first half. SU cut the deficit to just 10 at 34-24 by halftime, but the Roanoke lead proved to be too much to overcome.
Despite outrebounding RC 55-50, the Hornets saw Roanoke pull away for the 23-point victory behind 16 points by Lindsay Reynolds and 15 points and eight rebounds by Jennie Schafer.
Sophomore Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W. Va./East Hardy) led Shenandoah with a game high 23 points while junior Dee Fisher (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) added 14 points and eight boards.
Sophomore Cassie Womack (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) scored just two points but pulled down a career high 19 rebounds in the losing effort. She had nine offensive and 10 defensive boards.
