NC Wesleyan Holds off Volleyball

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Shenandoah University gave it everything it had Friday afternoon, but No. 4 NC Wesleyan outlasted the Hornets in the USA South Volleyball Tournament quarterfinals.

For the first time in three meetings this season, Shenandoah (17-18) extended the Lady Bishops (21-11) to five games but could not pull off the upset.

NC Wesleyan won games one and two 30-19, 30-24 before SU took the next two by the exact same scores. NCWC then advanced to the semi-finals with a 15-1 victory in the deciding fifth game.

Freshman Christina Greene (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) led the Hornets with a match high 15 kills while Michelle Chandler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) and Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) added 11 and 10, respectively.

Greene, an honorable mention All-USA South pick earlier this season, led the defense with 12 digs and Jennifer Thompson (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) contributed 20 of the team's 42 assists.

Box Score 

Shenandoah ends the season with a school record 17 victories and the .486 winning percentage is the second best ever.
