ERIE, Pa. - The SU volleyball team turned in its strongest showing of the young season Friday and Saturday by winning three of four matches at the Penn State - Behrend Tournament.
Shenandoah (4-4) defeated Medialle 3-1 (30-27, 25-30, 33-31, 30-28) and D'Youville 3-1 (30-26, 25-30, 30-16, 30-27) on Friday night before splitting its two Saturday matches.
The Hornets opened Saturday play with a 3-1 (31-29, 30-12, 26-30, 30-25) victory over Pitt-Bradford before host PSU-Behrend took a 3-0 (30-26, 30-24, 30-22) win in the finale.
Shenandoah's three wins was good for a fourth place finish at the tourney.
Senior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) had a combined 53 kills in the four matches, including 16 against D'Youville and a tournament high 18 in the Pitt-Bradford match. She was later named to the All-Tournament team.
Freshman Jennifer Thompson (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) had a team high 86 assists in the tourney and classmate Michelle Chandler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) chipped in with 53 kills, 89 assists and 17 digs while Christina Greene (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) added 28 kills and 40 digs.
