MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Shenandoah University men's soccer team captured its first tournament title of the 2004 season this past weekend with a pair of 1-0 victories.
Shenandoah (2-2) captured the Maryville Tournament with a 1-0 win over Huntington (Ala.) on Saturday and then turned in a win on Sunday over host Maryville by the same score.
Junior Mihailo Prelevic (Podgorica, Montenegro/Olympic Heights) gave the Hornets the tournament championship Sunday afternoon with his unassisted goal in the 10th minute. Prelevic took a shot from 25 yards out that MC (2-2-1) keeper Adam Gutzman had no chance to save.
SU keeper Kyle Hodges (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) made the shot stand up as he made seven saves on 17 shots. The Scots outshot Shenandoah 17-6.
Coach Rob Kulton's club put itself in position to win the title after sophomore Chad Blizzard (Owasso, Okla./Owasso) tallied in the 62nd minute of Saturday's game.
Junior Chris Peter (Chantilly, Va./Northern Virginia CC) had to make just three saves to earn his first shutout of the season.
