WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University battled for four games, but came up short as Averett University took a 3-1 (30-18, 33-31, 23-30, 30-18) USA South Conference volleyball victory Sunday afternoon.

Averett (11-2, 4-0) got 12 kills from Christy Renegar and 11 from Kris Dunn to key the big conference victory.

Senior Hannah Williams (Salem, Va./Glenvar) led the Hornets (7-5, 3-1) with a match high 14 kills and Michelle Chandler (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles West) added 11 kills and 16 assists, but it was not enough to get Shenandoah's first ever win over the longtime league power.

Freshman Christina Greene (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) led the SU defense with 19 digs while Williams and Jenna Warrenfeltz (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg) both had 14.
