Virginia Wesleyan Reels in Hockey

WINCHESTER, Va. - Virginia Wesleyan jumped all over host Shenandoah in the early going Wednesday afternoon, scoring three goals in the first 26 minutes on its way to a 5-1 field hockey over the host Hornets.

VWC (6-3) led 4-0 at the break and expanded its lead by one more before Shenandoah (1-4) scored the final goal of the game in the 60th minute.

SU freshman Erika Bradd (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) had the Hornets tally; it came off of a penalty corner.

Kimmy Bausch, who scored what proved to be the game winner in the 20th minute, led the Marlins with two goals while Laura Weidema, Emily Buckland and Michelle Krueger all added one.

Shenandoah goalkeeper Wendy Taylor (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) had six saves.

Shenandoah is back in action on Saturday when it takes on the only other USA South Conference field hockey school, Christopher Newport University. Game time at CNU is 2:00.
