NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The SU women's field hockey team suffered its worst ever loss Saturday as Christopher Newport took the unofficial USA South Conference championship with a 9-0 victory.
CNU and SU are the only two USA South schools that sponsor intercollegiate field hockey and the Captains used three goals in the first 10 minutes to seize control of the first match between the two schools.
The Captains (6-1) led 7-0 at the break after scoring the final goal of the first half just eight seconds before the period ended. Ashley Robertson and Megan McCreedy each had two goals for CNU during this span.
Shenandoah (1-5) was able to mount more of an office in the second half, taking four shots, but was unable to find the back of the net.
SU goalie Wendy Taylor (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) made nine saves.
