WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University snapped a pair of four-game streaks Thursday evening in its 84-65 non-conference women's basketball victory over visiting Mary Baldwin College.
Shenandoah (3-9) snapped its own four-game losing streak while halting the Squirrels (6-9) four-game winning streak. SU also gets a split of the season series with MBC in the process; Mary Baldwin was an 81-74 victor in Staunton on December 2.
The Hornets used double digit scoring from five of its seven regulars to coast to the 19-point victory. Freshman Netagia Foreman (Winchester, Va./Sherando) had a game high 22 points, 11 in each half, to key the balanced effort.
SU led 40-26 at the half and expanded its lead to as many as 28, 66-38, with 10:31 to play before Mary Baldwin got back into the contest against the Hornets reserves. Shenandoah had eight of its nine players in uniform score at least two points, including the first two points of her intercollegiate career for freshman Melissa Landon (Goldsboro, Md./North Landon).
In addition to Foreman's 22, freshman Spice Suddarth (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) had a career high 16, Alicia Sanders (Wardensville, W. Va./East Hardy) and Joia Davis (Trenton, N.J./Stuart County) 13 each and Cassie Womack (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) 10.
Womack also had a game high 13 rebounds despite sitting out the final nine minutes of the contest.
Katrina Scruggs led MBC with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
