Field Hockey Finishes Home Slate with Win

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University field hockey team completed its 2005 home schedule in style Friday afternoon with a 2-1 overtime win over the College of Notre Dame.

After CND (4-7) had scored the game's first goal off of a penalty corner in the 43rd minute, Shenandoah (2-7) went to work.

Just moments after having the game-tying goal called back because of a high shot, the Hornets tied on a Courtney Beard goal off of a penalty corner with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.

Beard scored the goal when she took the corner and got it back from classmate Kelly Matagiese right on the doorstep.

This formula also proved effective in the sudden victory overtime as SU finally converted the game-winner on its fifth corner of the extra session. This time it was junior Erika Bradd with the goal; she took the feed from Matagiese off of the Beard corner and found the back of the net for the clincher.

SU keeper Wendy Taylor had to make just one save in earning the win.
