NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Second seeded Christopher Newport University made quick work of visiting Shenandoah Tuesday night in the opening round of the USA South Conference volleyball tournament. 

CNU (30-5) needed just 55 minutes to dispatch seventh seeded SU (8-22) from the tournament with a 3-0 quarterfinal round sweep. The Lady Captains were 30-15, 30-23, 30-15 winners. 

Christopher Newport advances to Friday's semi-finals at top-seeded Greensboro to take on third seeded Averett. The Lady Cougars advanced to the semis with a 3-0 win over sixth seeded NC Wesleyan Tuesday evening. 

Sophomore Michelle Chandler led Shenandoah offensively in Tuesday's match with nine kills and also had a team high 11 digs. 

Classmates Alex Hamlin and Jennifer Thompson each chipped in five kills, with Thompson adding 10 digs. 

Freshman Catherine Beuerle had 18 assists to go along with her 10 digs.
