WINCHESTER, Va. - — Shenandoah University got its first win of the 2005-06 women's basketball season Friday night with a 75-64 non-conference victory over visiting Mary Baldwin College.
SU (1-3) led for virtually the entire first half before MBC (1-4) went on a 14-2 run over the final 3:52 of the half to take a 29-24 lead into the lockerroom.
The Squirrels eventually pushed this lead into double digits by the 14:10 mark when a Jessica Carter layup gave the visitors a 47-37 lead with 14:10 remaining.
Shenandoah answered right back with an
Alicia Sanders 3-pointer, which ignited a 17-6 run over the next 4:30 to give coach Kathy Orsini's club a 54-53 lead by the 9:40 mark.
SU would hold this advantage the rest of the way and sealed the contest with a 10-3 run from the 5:07 to 1:47 marks that gave the hosts a 69-60 lead.
Sanders led all scorers with 20 points while
Cassie Womack added 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore
Netagia Foremanrounded out the Hornets double-digit scorers with 10.
Carter had 19 for Mary Baldwin.
