Ferrum Rallies Past Women

FERRUM, Va. – Rebounding woes were once again the story Saturday afternoon as the Ferrum College women outlasted visiting Shenandoah 82-66 in USA South Conference women's basketball action.

Ferrum (10-11, 8-3 USA South) broke open a 41-41 game early in the second half with a 17-0 run; SU (5-15, 2-9 USA South) was unable to get the deficit into single digits for the remainder of the game after stopping the Lady Panther run with an Alicia Sanders bucket at the 11:04 mark.

Ferrum owned the boards in the second half; FC held a 68-42 rebounding advantage for the game, including a 36-21 bulge in the second. The margin was particularly great on the Hornets offensive end; Ferrum grabbed 37 of Shenandoah's 54 misses from the field.

SU made a couple of brief runs after its hosts opened up the 17-point bulge, but a 9-2 run immediately following the FC rally and another spurt late in the game that got the deficit to 11 failed to sustain themselves.

Sophomore Cassie Womack led the visitors with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Alicia Sanders added 15 points and Netagia Foreman12.

Aline Alzime posted game highs of 21 points and 18 rebounds for the Lady Panthers.
