NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport scored 10 of the first 14 points of the second half Wednesday evening to key a 87-78 USA South Conference victory over visiting Shenandoah.

CNU (8-10, 5-3 overall) led just 33-29 at the break, but answered two free throws by the Hornets' Netagia Foreman with a 10-2 Christopher Newport run.

From this point on, the Lady Captains led by at least six points the rest of the way until Shenandoah (4-12, 1-7) cut it to five at 81-76 with 1:36 remaining.

SU, who had made up a 13-point deficit in the waning moments one week earlier in an overtime loss against Ferrum, would not be able to close the gap this time. The hosts finished the game on a 4-2 spurt to clinch a sweep of the season series.

Foreman led all scorers with 22 points while Alicia Sanders added 18 and Cassie Womack 14 with a game high 13 rebounds.
