WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University completed its 2004-05 women's basketball regular season in fine fashion Sunday afternoon with a 65-45 victory over Methodist College.
Shenandoah (7-17, 3-11 USA South) achieved a split of the season series by shooting a solid 42.3 percent (22 for 52) from the field for the game and holding a 46-35 rebounding edge over the Lady Monarchs (10-14, 5-9 USA South).
Despite the victory, SU will enter next week's conference tournament as the No. 8 seed. Coach Kathy Orsini's club will travel to top seeded Greensboro for a Tuesday quarterfinal round game. This contest will tip-off at 7:00.
After leading by as many as 16 points in the first half, Shenandoah allowed its visitors back into the game with a 13-2 run over the final 2:48 of the period.
The two teams traded buckets to start the second, and then SU preceded to score the next 14 points of the contest to take a 47-28 lead with 11:27 remaining. Methodist would get no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
