Hornets Fall in USA South Opener

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Shenandoah University suffered through a difficult hitting night Friday night in the squad's USA South opener as NC Wesleyan took a 3-0 (30-21, 30-23, 30-21) decision at Everett Gymnasium.

SU (4-7, 0-1) hit just .088 (23 kills and 13 errors in 113 attempts) as the Lady Bishops (7-4, 1-0) earned the sweep.

The Hornets only significant lead came at 13-8 in the third game, but NC Wesleyan reeled off seven of the next nine points to tie the match at 15. SU pulled ahead on two more occasions, but a 5-0 run by the hosts ended Shenandoah's chances.

Sophomore Jennifer Thompson led the visitors with nine kills while Catherine Beuerle added 17 assists and Ashley Ballentine 13 digs.
