WINCHESTER, Va. - Randolph Macon College, the No. 20 team in the nation, scored the game's only goal midway through the second half to defeating homestanding Shenandoah University 1-0 in non-league men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon.
Macon (7-0), who is also ranked third in the South Region, got a Nick Mills goal off a Matt Cooper assist in the 58th minute to dispatch SU (3-3).
Cooper started off the play by serving in a corner kick - after the ball was deflected back to him, he volleyed back to Mills who one-timed his shot past Hornets keeperÂ
Kyle Hodges.
Hodges made five saves on the afternoon, but Shenandoah's chances were dealt a serious blow five minutes after Mills goal when sophomore midfielderÂ
Jace Kenny was issued a red card.
Kenny, who had possession of the ball at midfield, was pulled down by his jersey by Cooper as he attempted to play the ball forward. Cooper was issued a yellow card on the play, but Kenny was ejected for retaliation on Cooper.
Now forced to play down a man, SU was unable to get a shot off the rest of the way.
Macon outshot its hosts 13-4 and took four of the five corners.
