WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University earned its second USA South Conference victory of the 2005 season Tuesday afternoon with a 6-0 shutout of visiting Averett University.

For Shenandoah (7-3-1, 2-1 USA South), the win also allows the team to equal its overall win total from each of the past two seasons and assures the Hornets of their best conference mark since the 1999 team went 3-3.

Freshman Amanda Wade gave the hosts all the offense it would need against Averett (4-6, 0-3) in the 13th minute when she tallied an unassisted goal off a corner kick.

Seven minutes later, junior Lauren Carpinello scored on a shot from 25 yards out to give the Hornets an insurance tally.

Katie Bowers, Renee Summerson and Sabrina Zehr scored in the 31st, 69th, 79th minutes, respectively, before Summerson closed out the score sheet with an unassisted goal at 83:14.

Shenandoah outshot the Lady Cougars 18-4 and took eight of the game's 10 corners.

SU keeper Megan Clark made three saves in 55 minutes before leaving with an injury. Senior Ana Quinones played the final 34:51 to share the shutout with Clark.

Averett keeper Tunisa Bumphus had seven saves.
