Volleyball Splits at E&H

EMORY, Va. - Shenandoah University completed play at the Emory & Henry Tournament Saturday afternoon by splitting volleyball matches with Eastern Mennonite and host Emory & Henry.

Shenandoah (2-3) opened Saturday's action with a 3-2 (26-30, 30-27, 30-19, 23-30, 15-10) win over Eastern Mennonite before the Wasps took a 3-1 (30-17, 30-26, 19-30, 23-30) victory in the second match.

Sophomore Michelle Chandler led the Hornets in the EMU match with 17 kills and 15 digs while classmate  Jennifer Thompson had 16 kills, 25 digs and three service aces.

Freshman Catherine Beuerle had 44 assists, five service aces and 14 digs to lead the defense.

SU gave it a good effort in the E&H; match, but could not get over the hump against the Wasps. Thompson had a team high 18 kills, Alex Hamlin 11 and Beuerle 38 assists.

Shenandoah opens 2005 home play Wednesday night against Mary Baldwin. The match begins at 6:30.
