WINCHESTER, Va. - Hood College benefited from an own goal four minutes into its women's soccer game with host Shenandoah University Wednesday afternoon and made it stand up in 1-0 victory.
Awarded a corner kick 3:35 in, the Blazers Brittany Hurt drove the corner into the Hornets (2-11) penalty area.
The right-footed kick bent came down under the crossbar at the far post, where it was headed off an SU player for an own goal.
Hood (6-4-1) took just seven shots the rest of the way, but got three saves from Nina Duron to earn the win.
Shenandoah had 11 shots and the final two corner kicks of the contest, but could not find the back of the net.
