WINCHESTER, Va. - Frostburg State scored a late goal Thursday afternoon to end Shenandoah University's field hockey season with a 1-0 loss.
Despite being outshot 12-3, Shenandoah (2-8) had battled the Bobcats (5-10) to a scoreless tie through 67 minutes of the non-league game. Unfortunately for the Hornets, the 13th shot was the lucky one for FSU as they tallied the only goal of the contest.
Brittany Russell gathered in a crossing pass just inside the penalty circle, moved around her defender and ripped a waist level shot off of SU keeperÂ
Wendy Taylor's hand and into the near side of the goal
Shenandoah, which had two excellent opportunities in the second half, was unable to answer in the remaining 2:42 of the game and Frostburg escaped with the win.
In addition to the 13-3 shot advantage, the Bobcats took 18 of the game's 19 penalty corners.
Taylor had seven saves in the loss.
