FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - League leading Methodist College clinched at least a tie for the 2006 USA South Conference regular season championship Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 of visiting Shenandoah University.
The Monarchs (13-3, 6-0 USA South) have a chance to finish the league slate undefeated with a road match next week at Ferrum. The loss eliminates Shenandoah (3-13, 1-5) from post-season tournament consideration.
Methodist got all of the offense it would need with a Brenda Chambers goal in the 25th minute - they added two more goals in the next 11 minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime lockerroom.
SU keeperÂ
Lauren Elliott made 14 saves, including 10 in the second half, but was peppered with 31 shots.
The box score will be available Sunday morning.
Shenandoah is back in action on Tuesday at Mary Baldwin.
