FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - No. 4 Methodist College advanced to Friday's USA South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament semi-finals with a 2-1 victory over fifth-seeded Shenandoah Tuesday afternoon at Monarch Soccerplex.

The Monarchs (14-4-1) now take on top-seeded Christopher Newport at 7:30 Friday night in the second of two semi-final round games. CNU earned the only bye in the tourney by finishing the regular season undefeated.

Methodist posted its second one-goal victory over the Hornets (4-11-2) in the past three weeks with goals at 71:11 and 85:28. SU cut that deficit in half with an Aaron McGuiness to Jace Kenny goal at 87:09, but were unable to get off another shot.

Evan Monteiro scored the opener off a double assist before he fed Brandon Cunningham on a give-and-go for the game-winner with just under five minutes left.

Shenandoah keeper Brian Garretson made six saves. His side took 14 of the game's 24 shots and the two teams split four corners.
