Lady Captains End Volleyball's Season

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Second-seeded Christopher Newport University eliminated No. 7 Shenandoah University from the 2006 USA South Conference Volleyball Tournament Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory at the Freeman Center.

Christopher Newport (26-9) earns a trip to the league semi-finals on Friday with a 30-19, 30-21, 30-24 victory over the Hornets (14-14). CNU, which tied for the regular season title, takes on third-seeded Greensboro in the first of two semi-finals at Averett University's Grant Center.

The top-seeded Lady Cougars face the winner of No. 4 Ferrum vs No. 5 Methodist in the other semi.

Junior Michelle Chandler led SU in the losing effort with a match-high 10 kills with freshman Tina Conner posting 15 digs.

Sophomore Catherine Beuerle recorded her first double-double of the year with 12 assists and 11 digs.

Ellen Koch had nine kills for the victors.
