FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Shenandoah University womenís basketball team got within one possession of taking the lead three times in the second half of its USA South Conference contest with Methodist College Friday night, but fell just short in an 86-78 defeat.
Methodist (13-11, 8-5 USA South) successfully fought off Shenandoah (8-15, 3-8 USA South) opportunities at the 14:04, 13:07 and 11:51 marks to gain a season sweep over the Hornets.
The Lady Monarchs iced the game by going on an 11-4 run following Joia Davisí two free throws that had made it 61-59 in favor of the hosts with 11:51 left. This margin eventually expanded to 12 points, 78-66, by the 4:36 mark before SU was able to answer with a 10-2 run of its own over the next 3:15.
Unfortunately for coach Kathy Orsiniís squad, this would prove to be the high-water mark. MC got one second chance basket and made all four of its foul shots while the Hornets missed four three-pointers and one layup in the remaining 51 seconds of the contest.
