FRONT ROYAL, Va. - Shenandoah University opened its 2006 volleyball season in style Saturday afternoon - the Hornets made the short trip to Christendom worth it in a 3-0 non-league victory.
SU (1-0) racked up a school record 37 service aces in the 30-12, 30-13, 30-6 sweep of the Crusaders (0-1). Junior
Michelle Chandler had 14 of those aces to set an individual record; all but one of the nine women who attempted a serve recorded at least one service ace.
Coach
Sarah Pelster's squad had a balanced attack as well - six different players had at least one kill with
Jennifer Thompson and
Chevon Parkerleading the way with six each.
Chandler had five kills, seven assists and a team-high three blocks solo while Thompson added 10 assists and nine service aces.
