WINCHESTER, Va. - Marymount University scored an overtime goal three minutes in Tuesday afternoon to propel the Saints to a 2-1 men's soccer victory over host Shenandoah University.

The win also gives Marymount a sweep of the season series between the two clubs. The Saints (6-3) had defeated SU (0-6-2) 3-0 in the season opener on September 2.

The Hornets needed a late goal in regulation to force the extra period; redshirt freshman Freddie Ventura scored that equalizer with just over eight minutes to play when he took a long through pass from keeper Brian Garretson, slipped past his defender and beat MU keeper Nick Anderesh. The goal and the assist were career firsts for both Ventura and Garretson.

An Apple QuickTime video of the goal can be viewed here.

Marymount junior Justin Domes got the golden goal 4:34 into the extra period when he converted a feed from Daniel Lozano right on Garretson's doorstep.

The Saints scored the initial goal of the contest in the 39th minute as Paul Decker finished off an Alex Herman corner kick. Herman dropped his corner, which turned out to be the only one his side had all afternoon, into Lozano in the middle of the box. Lozano calmly settled the ball down and served it to Decker, who zipped his shot just inside the near post.

The hosts generated an early overtime opportunity when Ventura beat Anderesh to the ball in the box and was able to get off a shot on goal. Unfortunately, the MU defense was able to clear the ball off the line, setting the stage for Domes golden goal.

Marymount out shot SU 13-12 on the afternoon while the Hornets took nine of the game's 10 corners.
