GREENSBORO, N.C. – Host Greensboro College used a strong start to the second half Saturday afternoon and pulled away from visiting Shenandoah 81-65 in USA South Conference women's basketball action.

As one of the four teams locked in a tie for first place in the league heading into the day's play, Greensboro (11-5, 5-1) claimed the first of two games it will play against two of those league leaders this weekend with the 16-point victory over the Hornets (11-5, 4-2).

The Pride led at the break, 40-33, and scored 13 of the first 17 points of the second to lead 53-37 with 15:28 to play. Shenandoah would not get any closer than 13 points the rest of the way, and trailed by as many 21 before finishing the contest on an 11-6 run.

Greensboro shot 49.1 percent (28 for 57) for the game, including 15 for 28 (53.6 percent) in the second half. Senior Staci Humphrey, a D3hoops.com pre-season first team All-American, led the hosts with 28 points. She added eight assists and seven rebounds to come up short in a bid for her first career triple-double.

GC also dominated on the boards, grabbing 50 to the Hornets 34 including 28 of the 44 in the first half.

Senior Alicia Sanders and sophomore Stephanie Harrold had 13 each for SU, which also saw Cassie Womack held under 10 rebounds for just the sixth time all season. Womack had six rebounds against the Pride and now needs eight boards to become the first Shenandoah player to crack the 1000-rebound barrier.
