WINCHESTER, Va. - Host Shenandoah University gave Ferrum College all it could handle in a USA South Conference volleyball match Thursday night, but the Panthers prevailed in a 3-1 victory.
After SU (7-15, 0-10 USA South) won game one, 30-21, FC came back to win games two through four, 30-23, 30-28, 32-30.
Shenandoah threatened to send the match into the decisive fifth game by taking leads of 29-27 and 30-29 with the serve, but the Panthers (12-13, 6-6) were able to escape both times.

Jennifer Thompson knocked down her 15th and final kill for the Hornets, Ferrum earned the serve back on a Jessica Flanagan kill.
Flaganan then stepped to the service line and gave her team some breathing room when Shenandoah'sÂ
Jessi Johnson drove an attack attempt long.
Thompson gave the Hornets a second opportunity to win the game by getting a kill on the next point, but the the hosts had two consecutive attack errors and a bad set to finish the match.
Mindy Altice led all players with 23 kills, while Flanagan added 22 and Jessica Walker 10 with a game-high 27 assists.
Thompson posted a triple-double with 15 kills, 14 assists and 21 digs.
