Hockey Douses Blazers for first Win

FREDERICK, Md. – Shenandoah University earned its first field hockey victory of the 2007 season Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 shutout over host Hood College.

Senior Lindsay Collison scored the opening goal of the Hornets (1-9) before a pair of freshmen added insurance goals against the Blazers (3-9).

Collison scored that unassisted goal in the eighth minute while freshman Jocelyn Whitt scored in the 12th and 27th minutes to send SU into the halftime lockerroom with a 3-0 advantage.

Even with the three-goal lead, Shenandoah continued the press the action in the final 35 minutes. The Hornets took 13 of their 21 shots after the break and closed out the scoring on a Meggie Dutill tally in the 47th minute.

Goalkeeper Chelsea Smith made two saves to post her first career shutout.
