WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University earned its first women's basketball victory of the season Tuesday night with an 87-74 non-league victory over Southern Virginia University.
Shenandoah (1-2) earned the victory with a strong second half performance. The Knights (2-4) led 44-36 at the break and held as much as a 13-point lead in the first half before the Hornets roared back in the second.
SU put together a 10-0 run from the 15:27 to 12:48 marks of the second to take a 53-52 lead; from this point on the Hornets trailed just two more possessions the rest of the way.
The hosts took the lead for good with 9:47 to play on aÂ
Jordan Lawsonlayup with 9:47 left and quickly expanded this lead out to five points.
Southern Virginia refused to fold, however, and the Hornets didn't ice it until finishing the contest on a 12-0 run.
