Women Clinch Fourth Seed

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team tied a school record for conference victories in a season Saturday afternoon with a 90-65 victory over Methodist, but more importantly earned itself a home game at next week's USA South Conference Tournament.

The Hornets (16-8, 9-5 USA South) will host Methodist (13-12, 7-7) in Tuesday's No. 4 vs No. 5 seed quarterfinal round game at 7:00 in Shingleton Gymnasium. As per USA South policy admission will be charged to all students, faculty and staff as well as SU season ticket holders. Shenandoah will host the Lady Monarchs for the second time in four days after pulling away from MU in the final 20 minutes of Saturday's contest. Leading 38-34 at the break, the hosts scored 20 of the first 24 points of the second half to break it wide open.

Once this run ended with a Courtney Bissette three-ball at the 11:47 mark, Methodist get not closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

Coach Michelle Guyant-Holloway's club eventually pushed its advantage to 28 points before the Lady Monarchs closed out the game's scoring with a three-pointer at the seven second mark.

SU had seven players: Alicia Sanders, Valerie Samples, Dee Fisher, Cassie Womack, Katherine Flint, Stephanie Harrold and Alexis Hargbol, all score at least 10 points. All 11 players in uniform scored at least two points.

Ashley Harris led the visitors with 15 points and Kristen Whitehurst added 11.
