Volleyball Splits Tournament Opener

SALEM, Va. - Shenandoah University split its opening two matches of the Roanoke College Tournament Saturday afternoon by defeating Randolph College before losing to Emory & Henry.

Shenandoah (4-1) opened the day by downing Randolph 3-2 (24-30, 30-25, 27-30,l 30-18, 19-17) before Emory & Henry swept SU 30-27, 30-18, 30-18 in the nightcap.

Seniors Jennifer Thompson and Michelle Chandler led Shenandoah to the win over the WildCats with a pair of triple-doubles. Thompson had 15 kills, 28 assists and 12 digs with Chandler adding 14, 23 and 13, respectively.

Chevon Parker backed them up with 13 kills and 10 digs with Lindsay Pugh adding 12 kills and a team-high six blocks.

Thompson and Jessi Johnson each had seven kills against Emory & Henry, with Thompson adding 11 digs.

Complete stats will be available Sunday evening.

The Hornets complete the tournament Sunday with matches against host Roanoke and Sweet Briar colleges.
