BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Host Bridgewater College sent Shenandoah
University down to its fifth straight field hockey defeat Thursday
afternoon with a 4-3 non-league win on Mapp Field.
Shenandoah (7-8) opened the scoring in the 11th minute on a Casey
Hertel goal off of Paola Aguilar's assist,
but the Eagles had an answer.
Bridgewater (8-8) tied in at 22:55 and then took a lead it would
not relinquish six minutes later when Brianna Jacques tallied
unassisted.
Jacques' goal was the middle tally in a three-goal run for BC
that saw the Eagles take a 3-1 lead just over five minutes into the
second half.
Sophomore Megan
Garrett cut that deficit in half with her goal at 47:37,
but Bridgewater answered again at 55:05 to maintain a two-goal
advantage.
The hosts turned out to need that insurance goal as Aguilar
scored her eighth goal of the season with two seconds remaining.
Aguilar has now set school records this fall for goals,
assists and points in a season.
Danielle
Lawson made five saves on 17 shots. BC outshot SU 17-12
and held an 11-7 advantage in penalty corners.
Shenandoah is back in action Saturday in a MAC Commonwealth game
at Widener.
