GRANTHAM, Pa. - Host Messiah College shut Shenandoah University
out 13-0 in the Hornets 2009 field hockey season finale Wednesday
afternoon.
Messiah (16-0, 6-0 CC) wasted little time in showing Shenandoah
(7-10, 1-6) why it is the No. 1 ranked team in the nation.
The Falcons got a Katie Love goal in the 17th minute for the
only offense they would need and scored seven more times in the
next 18 minutes to take a commanding 8-0 lead into the halftime
break.
MC outshot the Hornets 43-1 in the 70-minute contest, including
29-0 in the first half of play.
Junior Paola
Aguilar had that lone shot for SU, which also saw its
hosts win 18 of the 19 corners awarded in the contest.
Sophomore Danielle
Lawson had 14 saves in the loss.
Despite the defeat, the game concludes the most successful field
hockey season in program history. Shenandoah set new school records
for wins, consecutive wins and goals in a season as it reeled off
four straight wins in the middle of the season.
