WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University completed its 2009
women's soccer regular season Friday night with a 10-0 USA South
Conference victory over Mary Baldwin.
The victory for SU (10-6-4, 5-1-3 USA South) clinches a home
game at next week's USA South Conference Tournament.
The Hornets earned the No. 4 seed with the win over MBC (0-19,
0-9) and will face fifth-seeded Methodist on Tuesday at 7:00.
MU fell into the No. 5 spot after losing 2-1 in overtime to
Greensboro Friday afternoon. Shenandoah defeated the Monarchs 2-0
at home on September 26 in the regular season meeting between the
two schools.
The winner of Tuesday's game will move on to Martinsville, Va.
to take on the winner of the No. 1 Meredith vs No. 8 Ferrum game on
Thursday at either noon or 2:30 p.m. If MC wins on Tuesday, the
game will be at noon but if the Panthers score the upset the
game moves to 2:30.
Friday's outcome was never in doubt for the Hornets as sophomore
Jessi
Dennis scored a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes and
SU never look back.
Shenandoah led 4-0 at the break and scored in the 46th, 49th,
52nd, 53rd, 78th and 81st minutes to provide the final margin of
victory.
SU held a 40-2 advantage in shots and took all 10 of the game's
corners.
Sophomore keeper Kat Terza had to
make just two saves to earn her third shutout in five games of
league play this season.
Brooke
Strickler and Jess Natkin joined
Dennis in scoring two goals for the victors with Natkin also
adding an assist.
However, it was freshman Amber Womack who
did the most damage with three goals and two assists.
