WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Lycoming College took advantage of a
poor Shenandoah University free throw shooting performance
Wednesday night to down the Hornets 78-67 in a non-conference men's
basketball contest.
Shenandoah (3-9) shot a Harris-era low 28.6 percent (6 of 21)
from the charity stripe to make the job much easier for Lycoming
(9-2).
The Warriors became the first road team to win in the series in
the past six meetings by knocking down 46 percent of their shots
from the field and seeing four of its players hit in double
figures.
Will Kelly led this group with 17 points while also pulling down
12 rebounds. Lyco, on the strength of a 9-0 run late in the first
half, took a 34-28 lead into the half and never looked back against
SU.
The Hornets, who trailed by as many 14 points early in the
second, did make things interesting by cutting the deficit to three
points on two different occasions following the break.
Unfortunately for the hosts, the Warriors answered the first
Shenandoah run by scoring five straight points and the second with
a 7-0 spurt.
This second run, which ended with a Lenzie
Adams 3-pointer at the 50-second mark, effectively
finished off the hosts.
Lyco then clinched the contest by hitting its final four free
throws; LC converted its last eight from the line.
Junior Mitch
Dudley led Shenandoah with 17 points and 12 boards with
Adams adding 14 points and Kevin Kline 13.
SU is back in action January 6 in its USA South Conference
opener against Christopher Newport.
