WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University snapped its
three-game women's basketball losing streak Sunday afternoon with a
74-55 USA South Conference victory over visiting Greensboro.
The win was also the first for SU (3-4, 1-2 USA South) in the
past six meetings with Greensboro (1-5, 0-3).
After the defending USA South regular season champion Pride
opened the game with a 6-0 run, Shenandoah answered by scoring the
game's next 11 points to take control of the contest.
The two teams then traded the lead six times and were tied on
four other occasions in the next 10 minutes before the Hornets took
the lead for good by ending the half with a 17-6 run.
Senior Katherine Flint did
most of this damage - she had 11 of her game-high 22 points in the
first 20 minutes of play. SU also had a 26-17 advantage on the
boards and forced the Pride into 15 first-half turnovers.
Another Shenandoah run, this one 9-0 to start the second,
basically ended the game by the 16:21 mark.
The Hornets led by at least 16 points the rest of the way and
held a 23-point advantage at one point.
In addition to Flint's 22, 11 of the other 13 Hornet women in
uniform registered at least two points with Amy Rhoderick leading
this group at nine points and eight rebounds.
No SU woman played more 29 minutes in the game and two players
saw action for the first time this year.
Bianca Richburg had 17 points with 14 rebounds and Nikki Wilborn
had 11 points for GC.
The Hornets held a 49-44 advantage on the boards.
Shenandoah is off until Friday night when it takes on Wilkes
(Pa.) in the opening game of the Elizabethtown Tournament. E-town
plays Cabrini in the other tournament contest.
