WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University field hockey team
recorded possibly the biggest win in the seven-year history of the
program Saturday with a 1-0 non-league victory over visiting
Roanoke.
Junior Paola
Aguilar scored the only goal of the game in the 35th
minute to push SU (2-0) past the Maroons (0-3).
Shenandoah had never beaten Roanoke in six previous meetings and
was an 8-0 loser at RC last season.
The 2009 matchup was completely different - in addition to
Aguilar's goal, SU outshot its visitors 8-2 for the game and
Hornets keeper Danielle
Lawson had to make just one save in posting her first
career shutout.
Roanoke did hold a 6-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Shenandoah continues this homestand with a 1 p.m. Sunday contest
against Lynchburg.
