WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Ferrum College eliminated
Shenandoah University from USA South Conference men's soccer
tournament consideration with a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon on
Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.
Ferrum (4-9-2, 1-3-1 USA South) qualifies for the six team
tourney with the win over SU (4-10-2, 0-4-1).
With each team having one game remaining in its respective
conference slate, the Panthers can do no worse than tie Shenandoah
for sixth place in the league. With the win today over the Hornets,
FC holds the tie-breaker to advance to the six-team post-season
tournament.
Shenandoah will now complete its season next Saturday with a USA
South contest at N.C. Wesleyan. Even if SU wins this game and
Ferrum loses its finale, the Panthers would still advance based on
their win today.
Aaron Gustine scored the game's only goal in the 18th
minute.
SU outshot its guests, 13-7, but FC keeper Chris Taylor had six
saves to help his team secure the victory.
Shenandoah also held an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks.
