Pride Ends Women's Season

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  Host Greensboro College eliminated Shenandoah University from the 2010 USA South Conference women's soccer Tournament with a 1-0 quarterfinal round victory Tuesday afternoon.

GC (12-5-1) scored the only goal of the match in the 65th minute when Mary Randolph beat Hornets keeper Kat Terza with a low shot from the top of the box.

The goal sends the Pride into a 5 p.m. semi-final on Friday at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville. GC will face the winner of the No. 8 N.C. Wesleyan vs No. 1 Christopher Newport contest.

This is the second time in three years that Greensboro has eliminated Shenandoah (11-7-3) from the USA South Conference Tournament.

Randolph tallied what proved to be the game-winner by corralling a Meredith Kelly cross that an SU defender deflected slightly – as soon as the pass came through to Randolph, she had five yards of clear space around her to control the ball and take her attempt at the Shenandoah goal.

Randolph drove her low-liner into the left corner of the net just past Terza's outstretched hands.

The first half saw GC take six of the eight shots in the period, with SU earning four of six corners.

The Pride had the opening six shots of the game, but Terza was forced to make just two saves and neither shot came from inside of 12 yards.

Greensboro ended the game with an 11-7 shot advantage while Shenandoah took six of eight corners.
