NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – No. 5 in the nation Christopher Newport University ended Shenandoah University's volleyball season with a 3-0 victory Tuesday night in the USA South Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
CNU (33-2) needed 58 minutes to eliminate the Hornets (18-14) with the 25-14, 25-13, 25-10 victory.
Bailey Jensen and Caitlyn Jansen each had 10 kills for the Captains, who hit a sizzling .468 for the match.
Christopher Newport committed just seven errors against 44 kills in 79 attempts to advance to the conference semi-finals.
As the tournament's top-seed, CNU will host the semi-finals and finals beginning on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Mary Harshman had seven of Shenandoah's 17 kills in the match with Haley Smith chipping in three.
Harshman and Emily Jones paced the defensive effort with six digs each.
The 18 wins for SU sets a modern (Dixie/USA South) era record for wins in a season.
