MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Shenandoah University opened up its 2010
baseball season Saturday by splitting a pair of non-league games at
the Ripken Complex.
After dropping the opener, 11-10, to Richard Stockton College of
New Jersey, SU (1-1) came back to defeat Bates (Maine) 9-8 in the
nightcap.
The Hornets, who are ranked No. 8 and No.9 in the nation by the
ABCA and D3baseball.com, respectively, got four hits and three RBI
from junior Kevin Brashears in
the opener.
Shenandoah held a 10-8 lead heading into the ninth against the
Ospreys before giving up three runs in the ninth to lose. The final
two runs were unearned.
Brashears continued to be the story in the nightcap, getting two
of the Hornets hits including a home run.
Brashears, who was the Most Outstanding Player of the South
Regional last season, drove in a pair of runs in the nightcap.
Junior Bobby Stefanowicz
was the winning pitcher in relief.
