FREDERICK, Md. Host Hood College combined a strong start
and a solid finish to down Shenandoah University 12-6 in a
non-league men's lacrosse match Saturday afternoon.
Hood (1-2) scored five goals each in the first and fourth
quarters to dispatch Shenandoah (0-1) for the first time ever.
Trailing 4-0 at the 9:51 mark of the first, SU scored three of
the next four goals of the contest to cut the deficit to two goals,
5-3, by the 9:59 mark of the second.
After the Blazers closed out the half by scoring two more times,
Shenandoah reeled off the first three goals of the second half to
make it 7-6 with 6:27 to play in the third.
Unfortunately for coach Brian
Jenkins, Hood answered this rally with five unanswered and
coasted home to its first victory of the season.
Junior Mac
Hedrick led the Hornets with a goal and two assists; he was the
only SU player to register multiple points.
Redshirt freshman Andrew
Fleischmann had 11 saves in his first collegiate start.
HC outshot Shenandoah 33-24, owned a 46-35 advantage in
groundballs and won 12 of the day's 21 faceoffs.
Three of the Hornets six goals came on EMO.
The squad is back in action Wednesday in a non-league game at
King's (Pa.).
