RALEIGH, N.C. - Shenandoah University put the finishing touches
on a perfect USA South Conference women's basketball road trip this
weekend with a 76-60 win at Meredith College Sunday afternoon.
The Hornets (12-7, 8-5 USA South) won for the fifth straight
time by jumping all over MC (6-12, 5-8) in the opening 20 minutes.
SU raced out to a 39-15 halftime lead as the Avenging Angels
shot just 5 for 33 (15.2 percent) from the field in the first.
Conversely, coach Michelle
Guyant-Holloway's women were 15 for 34 (44.1 percent) from the
field and all 10 women that saw action in the half scored at least
two points.
Junior Sierra
Edwards led this group with seven points; all three of her
field goals came on fast breaks during a 9-0 run midway through the
period that put the Hornets up 23-6 by the 9:25 mark.
Guyant-Holloway's club then finished the half by scoring 14 of
the final 19 points to take the 24-point lead into the lockerroom.
The second half brought more of the same as Shenandoah was able
to extend its advantage to more than 30 points on five different
occasions.
Meredith completed the game on its best run of the afternoon,
scoring 10 of the contest's final 12 points.
Alexis
Hargbol just missed her second consecutive double-double; she
had 13 points and nine rebounds while Edwards added 12 points and
Mandy
Johnston 11.
Kristen Stewart paced the hosts with 13 points.
The Hornets host Ferrum College Wednesday at 5:30.
