ASHLAND, Va. - Host Randolph-Macon sent the Shenandoah
University men's lacrosse team down to its fourth straight defeat
to start the 2010 season with a 20-7 non-league win Wednesday
afternoon.
Macon (2-0) led 4-1 after one before breaking things open by
scoring six of the eight goals in the second period over the
Hornets (0-4).
R-MC scored 11 straight goals in the middle of the contest,
holding Shenandoah without a goal from the 6:38 mark of the second
until there was 12:05 remaining in the contest.
That second period goal from SU, by Joe Avveduti off
of a Kevin
Totaro assist, made the score 4-3 in favor of the Jackets.
By the time Totaro fed Jimmy
Bungert for Shenandoah's next goal, the Jackets held a
15-4 advantage.
Bungert's tally, on EMO, began a run in which the two teams each
scored four times before Patrick Egan closed the book on the day's
scoring for the hosts with an unassisted goal 40 seconds before the
final horn.
Totaro led the Hornets in scoring with five assists while
Bungert, Avveduti and P.J. Cooper had
two goals each.
Andrew
Fleischmann made 18 saves in the first 45 minutes of the
game.
R-MC outshot SU 56-17, won 18 of 30 faceoffs and scooped up 49
of the game's 71 groundballs.
Shenandoah is back in action on Saturday at Oberlin.
