FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Shenandoah University got back on the
softball winning track by getting a win and a tie in a non-league
doubleheader at Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (10-7-1) was a 10-2 winner in the opener before Mary
Washington (4-13-1) came back to salvage a 4-4 tie in the nightcap.
SU actually scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning of
game two before the umpires called the game due to darkness. By
rule, the game reverts back to the last completed inning and thus
ends in a 4-4 tie.
A six-run first inning was all the Hornets needed to secure the
victory in the opener. Ashley Plaugher,
Lauren
McCabe, Emmalie Spina, Denise
Mitchell and Renoula
Jones all had run-scoring singles in the frame.
Jolisa
Jones, 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBI, and Catherine
Pruiett, 3 for 4 with one RBI, led the Hornets at the plate.
Sophomore Brooke
Over struck out 10 and walked just one in the complete
game victory. She improved to 5-4 on the spring by tossing a
four-hitter.
Four game-two errors led to three of the four Eagles runs being
unearned.
Amanda
Litwin struck out four before Over registered another five
K's in pitching the final three innings.
Jones, Pruiett, Plaugher and Lauren Wall all
had at least two hits with Jones getting three hits in four
at-bats.
SU hosts N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday at noon in a USA South
Conference doubleheader.
